Upper Dolpo

28 Days Trip Code NSTR242

Shey Phoksundo National Park covers an area of 3555sq. km, which is the largest in Nepal. Full of virgin forests harboring one of the world's best habitat of snow-leopard, blue sheep, ghoral, musk deer, wolf and other wildlife. Tourists are rare and
any trip is certain to be an adventure. There is mixed culture and religion of immigrant Tibetan families. It is known as the hidden valley in the crystal mountain.
Upper Dolpo was opened for a limited number of tourists in 1991. Upper Dolpo is located beyond the Dhaulagiri Himalaya range; it is thus blocked off from
the moisture from the Bay of Bengal. This is the main reason why there is very little rainfall even in the summer. The people of Upper Dolpo are Buddhists. Over the centuries, nomads from western Tibet crossed the Himalays and settled in Dolpo. Buddhism reached this area around the 10th century. The most predominant
sect is the Ningmapa, which is the oldest sect established in Tibet by the end of the 7th century by the great Guru Ringpoche. Later Kagyopa and Sakyapa sects also entered the land.

I've been trekking & climbing in Nepal for many years and Nepal Sanctuary treks is without doubt the best agency I have used. Tulsi, Prashant and other staff worked hard to ensured that our trip to the Khumbu Himal was one of the most memorable. Our thanks to you all. We're looking forward to seeing you all again in 2016.
