Trip Overview

Betrawati to Besisahar Trek is a beautiful trek where you trek through traditional Hindu villages and beautiful countryside and forests. The trek offers great views of Ganesh Himal and the Manaslu Range. Along the trek, you will visit the Gorkha Palace, the palace of the great king who unified Nepal, Prithivi Narayan Shah. This is a beautiful short trek from the Great Himalayan Trail lower route’s section.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive at Kathmandu airport (1,302m/4,270ft)

You will be received and escorted to the hotel by our staff, refresh yourself and take some rest or explore the area around your hotel. Accommodate at Kathmandu.

Day 02: Kathmandu valley sightseeing and Trek preparation

Kathmandu is the cultural heart of Nepal and has been a famous destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its borders to visitors. Today after breakfast we will explore Kathmandu valley, a guided tour will be conducted to major world heritage sites inside the valley. As Kathmandu valley is a beautiful combination of Hinduism and Buddhism we will visit historical sites like; Durbar Squares, Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath (monkey temple) and Buddhist shrine of Bouddhanath which is one of the largest stupa in the world. After the tour you will prepare yourself for the trek, will be briefed about the trek; buy all the trekking equipments required and overnight at hotel.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Betrawati (605m/1,984ft) 5hrs drive/ Betrawati to Buntang (1,294m/4,245ft) 4hrs trek

You will have an early breakfast in the hotel and a vehicle organized by the company will drive us Betrawati, it is a market area with few guesthouses and restaurants. Once we reach, we cross a bridge over Phalakhu Khola and follow the road. We will enter the buffer-zone of Langtang National Park; we take the dirt road next to the main road, the dirt road descends down to Trisuli River and after crossing the river we reach a small village known as Sole. After the village we trek through a small trail and trek down and cross another bridge over Trisuli River, we get back on the dirt trail and trek following the Salaukhu Khola. We then trek through the fields passing the villages of Chilaune and Kirenbagar, we then come across a Y-junction we reach a river where we cross it stone hopping. From here we start to ascend, we cross the road several time and enter back in the shortcut trail passing through forests. We pass another village named Bondang from where we then trek to our destination for the day, Bungtang. It is a big spread-out village with few restaurants, we camp our tents here and rest the night.

Day 04: Bungtang to Chautara (1,591m/5,219ft) 5-6hrs trek

After having breakfast we follow the road through the village, we take few shortcuts and return back to the road that continue to ascend. As we trek higher through the fields and forests we enter rhododendron forest, we then pass the village of Phasang and Myagang. After Myagang we ascend to the highest point from where we will see an old stupa next to which there is a small trail that steeply descends taking us to the village of Gairagaon and further down to the village of Chautara. There are few lodges and restaurants here; there is a Tamang palace nearby where we can walk up to as we have enough time to explore. We camp our tents here in a village and spend the night here.

Day 05: Chautara to Arugath (490/1,607ft) 8-9hrs trek

Today is a long trek day; after having breakfast we leave Chautara and follow the road through the village. We slightly ascend to the village of Tikardung, from here we ascend further. Soon the trail is flatter passing through the fields. We pass another village known as Tanzamani, here we will have the first view of Manaslu and Ganesh Himal Range. Trekking further we pass several other villages like Marpak, Nimarchuk, Lapang, Aku Sanku, Khare and Sukaura. Along the trail we trek through pine forests and small trails as we descend, we will stop for lunch at Lapang as there are few restaurants there. The trail is more scenic and it has a few difficult climbs and descents. After Sukaura we will be trekking through beautiful countryside with spread-out terraces, we then cross a village known as Ganeshthan. After Ganeshthan we will cross a small bridge and right after crossing the bridge we enter a small trail, the trail climbs up. As we ascend we reach the village of Salyantar, after the village we descend steeply through a small trail. We trek through a forest, bamboo groves and small fields with banana plants. We get close to the Budhi Gandaki River and follow the river upstream. About an hour later from here we reach the town of Arugath, we will camp our tetns here for the night.

Day 06: Arugath to Kalikatang/Gorkha Palace (1,313m/4,307ft) 7hrs trek

We will have an early breakfast and rejoin the trail; as we begin to trek we follow the road passing the bus station. We cross a suspension bridge and trek to a temple of Bhimsen; we continue to trek towards the river. We trek through the dirt road and along with few short cuts, as we continue to trek the trail gets easier; mostly alongside fields and terraces. Along the trail we pass few small villages like Tanrang, Saune Pani, Okhle, and Kuwapani; after here the trail take us through fields and forests. The trail descends for few minutes and then starts to ascend again taking us to the village of Khanchowk, the village has a few restaurants so we can stop here for lunch. After having lunch we trek through a flat trail passing the village of Sigre and Kuereni. From here it is few minutes of trekking to another village, the village of Korkhe Ale from where we get to the road and continuing to trek with few shortcuts in-between we pass several other villages. We finally arrive at the village of Padilikot from where it is just 10 minutes trek to Kalikatang, our destination for today; the village is at the foot of Gorkha Palace. The palace is a historical site of Nepal, there is also a Hindu temple here in the palace. We will camp our tents in a suitable campsite nearby.

Day 07: Kalikatang to Gorkha (1,075m/3,526ft) 1hr trek

Today is the shortest trek day; after having breakfast we climb to Gorkha Palace and then we will descend to Gorkha through stairs that will take us all they down to Gorkha Bazaar. Today is much of an exploration day as we have enough time; we visit the Gorkha Palace at first then the Gorkha Museum. You can relax for the rest of the day or explore the market area. We will find a suitable campsite where we can spend the night and camp there.

Day 08: Gorkha to Appipal (1,140m/3,740ft) 7hrs trek

We have an early breakfast in the camp and rejoin the trail; the trail goes down to the Daraudi Khola. As we leave Gorkha we enter a dirt road and trek through smaller shortcut trails in between, we pass several villages like Nanglepani, Borabesi and Khoplang. Khoplang is a spread-out village; we trek to the centre of the village where there are few restaurants, we can stop here to enjoy our lunch in one of the restaurants serving dal bhaat. After lunch we will walk pass the village on beautiful trail, going down through terraces and then through stone steps. After leaving the village we take the trail going up through the forest, we trek through the forest and entering the road several times, continuing to trek we follow the stairs climbing up the hill. Along the trail we pass few villages, we will pass the village of Pokhare Besi after which there is another Y-junction that will take us bach to the forest. Climbing slowly through the forest we reach a dirt road, following the road we first pass the village of Ribgaon and further we arrive at the village of Appipal, a small village with few restaurants and a suitable camp site.

Day 09: Appipal to Paudi (520m/1,706ft) 6hrs trek

Today is an easy trek day; after having breakfast we begin to trek.  The trail is mostly flat with less ascending or descending, as we begin to trek the trail passes through forest on a dirt road, the trail gradually descends. Just as we leave we reach the village of Mukundara, if the weather is supportive then from here you will have an excellent view of the Manaslu Range and Chepe Khola beautifully flowing far below you. From here we continue trekking on the dirt trail and then on stairs for some time, we pass the Gurung village of Bayapani and descend steeply through forest to Chepe Khola. We cross the river and walk on a small trail following the river downstream, we then join the road again and cross a small stream two more times until we arrive at the village of Syauli Bazaar, we can stop here for lunch. After lunch we will trek through the stairs going up. As we ascend we enter the road again, we follow the road passing the village of Salphedi, Goretari and Tarkhughat. After the village we cross the Marshyandi Bridge and follow the river upstream, we continue to trek through forest. Trekking further we come to another suspension bridge over the river after which we climb up to the village of Paudi. Paudi is a small bazaar with few restaurants and there is a school in the village where we can camp our tents and spend the night.

Day 10: Paudi to Besisahar (810m/2,657ft) 7hrs trek

Today is the last day of our trek; we have an early breakfast and begin to trek. As we begin to trek we cross the same suspension bridge we crossed yesterday and follow the Marshyangdi River, the trail goes up and downhill following the river throughout. Along the trail we pass the village of Matigaon, in a clear day you can see Lamjung Himal and Annapurna 3 and 4. We cross the river several times and pass several other villages, after passing the village of Ramchowk we reach a restaurant where we will stop for lunch. We trek along the dirt road with few ascending stairs; few hours of trekking further we reach Besisahar after a final climb. It is headquarter of Lamjung district and starting point for several treks of Annapurna region. There are several guest houses and a bus stop here. We will spend the night here.

Day 11: Besisahar to Kathmandu 6hrs drive

After we have our breakfast we get on to a vehicle organized by the company, we will then drive back to Kathmandu. Once we reach Kathmnadu you will be transferred to your hotel and you can refresh, relax in the hotel or explore the evening time of Kathmnadu. We will accommodate the night here.

Day 12: Spare day in Kathmandu

We will wake up late and have a good proper breakfast. You will have the whole day to yourselves to either rest in your hotel or explore Kathmandu valley. We will spend the night in Kathmandu.

Day 13: Back home

Leisure time and explore Kathmandu until the departure time when you will be transferred to airport and fly back home.
